Review Keywords with me [Q4 2020]

Aannnd…ready for another keyword review? I love doing this because I know how helpful it is to see someone else walk through keywords together.

In this episode, I walk through the Search Console and how I’ve aligned my own goals for Q4 and how I align them with keywords.

I’ve done a couple of other keyword reviews/data dates this past year:

Let’s get into it - shall we?

This is the process I use to review keywords:

Step 1) Review my goals for the quarter

I like to do this before even opening up my reporting because it gives me focus and clarity on what I want to pay attention to in my data. Either wise, I will get overwhelmed easily and lose track of what I actually want to look at.

So the first step is taking a piece of paper or digital document, and getting clear on the goals I want to see reflected in the data. What pages on my site are important as part of this goal? And what keywords could lead to more sales?

Really thinking about my strategy before opening up your Google Analytics or Search Console can change everything for you.

Step 2) What am I already ranking in?

It is hard to get where you are going if you don’t know where you are standing right now. It’s so important to have awareness around the keywords you are currently ranking in NOW! And hey! You might already be on page 1 and not even know it.

So take a look at your current keywords from the last month and analyze clicks, impressions, and position (check out this episode 138 on how to understand your SEO results).

Make note of any keywords you weren’t aware of previously and also some that you’ve noticed before. Keep all your notes in a consolidated place to come back to it next time you look at your keywords.

Having this awareness is everything and will change the way you build out your content plan and SEO strategy in the future.

Step 3) What would I like to rank for?

Using both the Search Console and Google Suggest (directly using the Google search and see what suggestions come up near the bottom) can help give you ideas of what you’d like to rank for in the coming months.

Remember to keep in mind what you are actually selling in the next few months and what keywords could tie you back to sales. What blog posts are also part of your launch strategy, that you’d love to rank for and have continuous traffic going in.

Thinking about how your goals connect back to your SEO strategy will be exciting to you because you’ll suddenly be able to see the return on doing all this blogging.

Try and get really intentional about what keywords you’d like to rank in and put together a plan to create new content around those keywords or improve old blog posts that are already ranking.

That’s it my friends! Tell me in the comments below what your goals are regarding your SEO in the next quarter.
